Default Heel-Toe Peg Replacement

I want to replace my Heel-Toe Shifter Pegs - Any advice would be appreciated - I was told the stock ones have lock-tight from the factory and to put a vise-grip on them and give them a hard twist to get them off - Is that correct?
1 - Can I just remove them while they are attatched or should I take the bars off and them remove the pegs?
2 - Will I need to heat them to get them off?

What am I missing or what am I likely to break or watch out for?

I replaced mine last week on my '05 Ultra ... here is how I did it.

I used a vice grip and clamped down on the rubber peg hoping it would clamp down hard enough to be able to back the bolt out. But, the rubber just spun around and would not allow me to put enough jaw pressure on the bolt.

I then took a razor blade and cut the rubber peg off down to the bolt. I then used the vice grips again to clamp on the now exposed bolt. NO PROBLEMO! The peg bolt came right out and I installed the new ones. I guess I didn't notice if they had locktite on them, but I did apply a drop of locktite on the new peg bolts.

Hope this helps....

If you heat the area where the threaded stud goes into the arm well, you can back them out without damaging them at all. I use a small benzomatic torch for this, it softens the locktite up. That's some tuff stuff if you don't heat it.

Broke out the torch, razor blades and vise grips and got all set but before I did all that I tried using the vise grips - They turned right off - Are they installed at the factory or do the dealers do it? There was red lock tight used but like I say they were real easy to get off - Thanks fellas!

I had to heat mine - I used a heat gun - reinstalled with red loctite.
