I bought a detachable windshield for my '07 WG (tallest one made for WG). The windshield is too short for me becuasethe wind hits me in the face. I scrunch down an inch, and it is much better.
I was thinking of sliding the triple trees down 1/2" to 3/4" down the fork tubes so I could clamp the top windshield mounts on top of the fork tubes over the triple trees. I think this is worth a try, becuase it is fairly easy, and totally reversable.
Besides losing 1/2" to 3/4" of clearance, anyone think of any issues with this? It will slightly change the rake/trail... not sure of the implications of this. Shouldn't look weird I don't think, becuase I pretty much leave the windshield in place.
Replacement plexiglass that is an inch taller is also a consideration.
(BTW: I plan touse a jackunder the frame before loosening the clamps.)
Hate to answer my own post... but this worked out great. Slid trees down the tubes about 1" and mounted the windshield on top of the trees. Raised the windshield about2".
I would say if anything, handling is improved. The bike is level now instead of tilted back, which I like. Heels drag.. but this was the case before... I think they touch down a bit earlier due to the bike being 1" lower in front.
