I am looking to score something a little smaller to get around in midtown Manhattan. Right now I am on a 2003 CVO Deuce with the 1550cc SE engine, and it's like rideing a bull. I would like something with a bit less rake, shorter wheel base, and a wider front tire. I am open to all suggestions so you fellow NYC riders help a brother out.
Any Sportster really. I have a 2013 72 that gets around NYC just fine. Are you commuting from Jersey on a bike into the city or just want to get around while in the city?
If you're not into a Sporty or just wanna do something different Check out the newer Triumph Bonnevilles. I had a 2011 T-100 and still regret selling it.
Another bike in past that would fit the bill would be the Buell XB bikes. I had a 2005 Lightning CityX and they're very nimble, quick, good brakes etc if you wanted something a little more sport with a HD heart.
I think that's what the created the HD Street for. Inner city riding and such. I have taken my Road King into NYC many times and am surprised how nimble it is. Although if I were to ride in that hell hole every day I'd want something a little more manuevarable.
NYC is not a hellhole it just isn't for everybody. An Indian Scout would be good for the city. Actually all bikes are good for the city, it's all just lane splitting anyway.

I pulled into the dealership last week to pick up a few oil filters. I don't get too worked up over the newer bikes but that 48 is a sweet ride. I ride a Road King but that would be an alternative to buzz around town on!
I picked up an 02 FXSTI for my commuter in and out of NYC. Comfortable on the long ride in/out of the city but compact enough to cut through traffic. I had a Sportster when I lived in NYC and that was perfect when I was younger and lighter. It would be too small for me nowadays.
