Monkey Butt....whats your cure?
First 4-5 hours, I was good. Latter part of the day, I was squirming pretty good in my seat cause my butt was getting sore. I should have taken more and longer breaks but I going for time and duration.
For you long-haulers....what's some of your Monkey Butt cure secrets? Certain type of underwear? Padded shorts? Certain jeans?
My bike is a RGU with Mean City Cycles Super Narrow cut, which I like alot.
Thanks.
My *** started to hurt when we got passed 500 miles.
Thank god for gas stops to shake it off.
After we arrived (about hour 13/14) I didn't want to ever drive any further in one day.
It was a blast but 750 or so is my limit.
What I meant by Monkey Butt (I really don't know what it is also, just heard the term), was that my *** was getting pretty sore later part of the day.
After hearing about the suggestions of underwear, I think that would have helped. I was wearing some cotton's with seams on it, yeah, many hours sitting on them might have made my more sore than it should have.
I'm going to give myself another Iron Butt training run before going for the real deal and try some athletic style underwear like Underarmor.

LD riding shorts are a game changer. I switched to them a few years back.

I have two pair, you rotate them and wash them in a hotel sink, dry overnight.
Your gear needs to breathe. I wear mesh gear with only LD riding shorts underneath. Depending on your bike's wind protection, you can do this year round. I was in Maggie Valley last weekend, 32-36 degrees the first few hours in the morning. I had on BMW Airflow pants and jacket with LD riding shorts only underneath, no full length pants with seams. Of course, I had a Gerbing's Jacket and heated grips, but the lower fairing protection was good enough. I wear dry fit moisture wicking socks and shirts next to the skin, layer for cold weather and remove at stops.
The seat is always subjective. However, a firm seat is the answer. If your just uncomfortable with no hot spots, the LD riding shorts will help a lot. You need to get air movement in your gear and remove moisture. Try positioning yourself on one "cheek" at a time, slight angle left or right, to allow air flow. Colder weather would be ideal for these type rides, but not always possible. I use this gear in triple digit and freezing temperatures.

Compression shorts are a NECESSITY (no underwear, just compression shorts)
Sheeps wool or a folded thin towel over the seat as a minimum.
(if you can find an airline blanket, they are small and thin and work very well.
Some IBA riders use the beaded seat pads. I've never tried it so I can't say.
I run a folded airline blanket over sheeps wool and compression shorts. My body wears out before my ***.
If you are able to run 700 miles straight through, you are more than ready for your IBA ride. Grab some compression shorts, try them out then hit the road.
If you have any specific questions, send me a note if you want to ask in private.
Good luck. Ride safe.
