At home overnight and away...lock the forks. And I've stated locking the ignition too. The alarm sets itself and I agree, it's a deterrent for amateur POS thieves. At work, nothing, since I can see it right out of my office window.
I don't lock if I am going to the store and park on the sidewalk near the entrance. At a movie, I lock the fork and park near the front door of the Mall. Many time I forget the key and don't have the security. But I don't stay parked for long, If I am going to be somewhere longer i will take a different ride, I have a GPS in the Shield bag and a Power Vision II on the bike. No one has ever stolen anything from my unlock-able bags on any bike I had.
Many riders out here use the sidewalks at stores without a hassle. No bike parking in lots no one hassles anyone for parking on walkways
Plus I have replacement insurance.

9 times out of 10 when the bike is home, it's in the garage so I don't lock anything on it. As far as when I'm out, I usually don't lock the forks or anything due to me either being in seeing distance of the bike or because I'm never anywhere long enough to need to lock anything. Usually in and out for me.
