Told my daughter I'd bring her riding once she could reach the passenger footpegs(she's 6)Well she asked again yesterday so I told her to hop on & sure enough she can reach with feet flat on the pegs.So now I need to get her a full face helmet & thought a few of the forum members could steer me in the right direction for a good helmet for kiddo's.
I would go the used route for a kids helmet. Like shoes, she will quickly outgrow it. Something motocross oriented will be easy to find.
Youth helmet here for $20.http://houston.craigslist.org/mpo/4692507887.html

So, where will you take her for her first ride...or has she picked out a place yet?
Nowhere special, just some roads that are close to home that I can teach her how to be a passenger on.There's a few nearby that are farm to market rd's.with very few crossroads that I think she'll enjoy.
I bought my 10 yo daughters helmet new 3 years ago and it still fits. She will probably need a new one in the spring. No way would I put my kid on a motorcycle with someone else's used helmet. It's your child's noggin you are protecting. I got her an HJC CS-Y size Youth S/M. Got it for about $80 I think. You nor her will ever forget that first ride!!!
If my Grand Daughter [7 in 2nd grade] get's 4 gold stars for the week at her school I pick her up on Friday with a bike. She prefers the Shovelhead as it is the loudest. Seeing the look on her face when I pull up is priceless.
I bought a small youth helmet at a yard sale then painted it pink.
After a couple of full face helmets we learned that modular was the way to go. You give up something at race track speeds, but gain a whole lot in the form of getting it on and strapped, and avoiding claustrophobia.
I bought my son a Simpson bandit, I wanted something safe and he thought it looked cool. I also bought him a vanson textile jacket. I guess I am overprotective but he's my son

Got a cheap (relatively cheap...) Russian sidecar rig to give the grandkid rides, was looking at youth helmets, but my daughter tried her ff on him - it fit! Not loose, either, though it looks big. Don't remember what brand her's is, but not a cheap one, size small. Ok to check kid's sizes, but you might try some adult smalls, might surprise you. Lot more choices and prices, too. I'd be reluctant to get a used helmet, too, would want a real DOT helmet, not some cheap plastic thing.
I'd try to get leather gloves that fit her pretty well, too, those little fingers are fragile and they have a tendency to touch things they shouldn't; my little guy already found out the hard way Harley engines get hot.

No disrespect to 'upflying' but I wasn't planning on putting a used helmet on my kid.You don't know what they've been through, maybe nothing but maybe a lot.I appreciate the responses & have done a little research.I hope she doesn't get claustrophobic with a full face but am trying to ease her mothers anxiety of me bringing her. We're divorced & she can't stop me anyway but she can make my life miserable...Again!
