So yeah, I guess me and ol' tmanbuckhunter are the stereotype. Probably because we both ride EVO Dyna's, which sound waaaay better than the twin cams.
Now, every time that I make noise with a project, bothering Bob is a side benefit.
This paragraph made me chuckle :
In their 2007 published report, 'Fatal Two-Vehicle Motorcycle Crashes' (DOT HS 810 834), motorcyclists were found to be overwhelmingly responsible for causing accidents with passenger vehicles. In nearly three-fourths of the two-vehicle motorcycle crashes involving passenger vehicles, the role of the motorcycle was recorded as the striking vehicle. .......
Yeah, it's hard not to hit a car that turns in front of you. As a former traffic homicide investigator, their stats are full of crap.
The Federal Railroad Administration pretty much "sets the rules" on the use of the horn (and everything else).
There is still some "discretion" insofar as using the horn is concerned, and I certainly exercised it on my jobs. At least with older horn valves, it was possible to feather it a bit, and control the horn volume by controlling the air at the horn valve.
But new horn valves came along, and often they're essentially "all or nothing". You can't control them as well as once was possible.
Also, the newest engines have "pushbutton horn valves", again, very difficult to moderate the horn.
Sounds of the times...

I live in town a little more than a 1/2 mile away from one set of tracks and I can hear them blowing at all 6 intersections as they go through town,, more so at night And one goes through about every 20 mins.. Now that wakes me up at least once every night when they blown their horns. Haven't ever heard anyone talking about making them EPA compliant
