A couple weeks ago, I pulled into Starbucks, which is where bad asses hang out by the way, and I set off a Mexican's car alarm as I pulled up. He wasn't happy to have to come out of Subway and turn it off either. As I left, I set it off again and thought it was funny. If you're gonna have your alarm set so sensitive that noise will set it off, then you deserve to have to get up from stuffing your face with a $5 footlong and shut it off.

So yeah, I guess me and ol' tmanbuckhunter are the stereotype. Probably because we both ride EVO Dyna's, which sound waaaay better than the twin cams.
They're just mad because they know we're way better than them.

I have a neighbor, we'll call him Bob (because that is his name) and he's a noise natzi. He complains when I use a shop vac to clean my Jeep. He never liked either of my Harleys, or my '65 F250 that had headers and flowmasters. Two years ago, I was working on the truck the Friday before Memorial day after work grinding off the heads of the carriage bolts in the bed. He started to raise hell about it and I said "Hey Bob, blow me", and continued on with my project. I also told him to call the cops if thought I was doing anything illegal. And yes, I live in a nice subdivision with covenants - I'm also on the HOA board.

Now, every time that I make noise with a project, bothering Bob is a side benefit.

The day comes when I have to remove my loud pipes... I'll put a train horn on the SOB. Watch me.

wow....talk about the fun ****'s.....

This paragraph made me chuckle :
In their 2007 published report, 'Fatal Two-Vehicle Motorcycle Crashes' (DOT HS 810 834), motorcyclists were found to be overwhelmingly responsible for causing accidents with passenger vehicles. In nearly three-fourths of the two-vehicle motorcycle crashes involving passenger vehicles, the role of the motorcycle was recorded as the striking vehicle. .......

Yeah, it's hard not to hit a car that turns in front of you. As a former traffic homicide investigator, their stats are full of crap.

Did you see the stats on their web site? The most users online at one time...48! I wouldn't get worked up over these A-holes. 48 hand jobs that played dungeons and dragons in their partners basement until they were in their 30's.

There needs to be an ordinance that doesn't allow for train horn blasting after a certain time. That if 1 car on the road at 3AM can't see the orange and white striped gate with flashing red lights and "ding ding ding ding" bells then they aren't going to hear the damn train horn either.
I was a locomotive engineer for 32 years, ran Amtrak passenger, freight, some commuter stuff as well.

The Federal Railroad Administration pretty much "sets the rules" on the use of the horn (and everything else).

There is still some "discretion" insofar as using the horn is concerned, and I certainly exercised it on my jobs. At least with older horn valves, it was possible to feather it a bit, and control the horn volume by controlling the air at the horn valve.

But new horn valves came along, and often they're essentially "all or nothing". You can't control them as well as once was possible.

Also, the newest engines have "pushbutton horn valves", again, very difficult to moderate the horn.

Sounds of the times...

Makes me wonder what all the people that live near Rail Road tracks do.

I live in town a little more than a 1/2 mile away from one set of tracks and I can hear them blowing at all 6 intersections as they go through town,, more so at night And one goes through about every 20 mins.. Now that wakes me up at least once every night when they blown their horns. Haven't ever heard anyone talking about making them EPA compliant
