I don't tuck mine, but would like to have something to keep my jeans from flipping up and sliding to my calves when I put my feet on the highway pegs.

The reason that the cops tuck their pants into the boots is due to tradition and safety. The pants are made mostly of polyester just like the uniform shirts. If you get even a little bit close to the exhaust with the polyester.... well you know the rest.

I did the "Artie Johnson" once when my pant leg got caught on a foot peg as I was putting my foot down at a stop sign. I think the answer would be because it is safer.
