What I mean is that today, for the very first time, I went on a REAL ride. About 25miles worth that was not confined to my subdivison or a high school parking lot. Someof it was actually being on a 4 lane highway.
I feel like I did ok. My husband rode behind me to offer interferance should it be needed and as well to watch how I handled and if I needed any pointers. My max speed was between50-53 but for me that was fast!!!! I was not expecting the wind factor so I kept it mostly around 45. Thats when I decided I should probably head back home for town roads since the speed limit was 55 and most people exceed that. I did not want to be a hinderance or a statistic.
I had two instances that tested my reflexes. One was a squirrel who ran out in front of me. In my SUV I would usually swerve or slow so as not to risk hurting him. On the bike I figured better him than me and kept going (he got out of the way just in the nick of time). The second was a truck who turned in front of me into his driveway. The only thing I did wrong there was not downshift when I slowed and I should have.
Oh, and its 82 and sunny.
So - YEA!!! And yeh, it was a blast.[sm=happy046.gif]
Yah, I'm having a blast today. Just got home to change and ride up the mountain to work. I have to keep it around 50mph or so til the engine breaks in. Can't wait to open it up.
Congrats on the ride ! it sounds like you did very well now keep it up and you will be ready to ride the tail of the dragon in no time
that or attend the smoke out
Great, Good going. In town riding is the most dangerous with intersections being our biggest risks. Nice back country roads are the best riding for putting on miles and getting the hang of riding.
Congrats! It's soexcitingto get yourself really out on the road. Sounds like you did just fine
If the wind is a bit much I totally suggest a windshield....I love mine and Hubby is thinking he might want one soon too. It really makes my rides more enjoyable and less tiring.
As for the squirrelyou did the right thing. I have always told my kids that if it is the animal or them, its always the animal. Squirrels are fast little buggers, though I have to admit the only animal I have ever hit with a vehicle wasa squirrel that ran under the back tire of my Deluxe...nothing I could do.[&o]
Yeah, congratulations. Each successful ride makes the next one easier. In no time you'll be zooming down the highway wearing a "Squirrels Fear Me" t-shirt.
