Go to a credit union. Then walk into HD with written pre-approval from that credit union. It most likely will be a lower rate than what HD first quoted you. Then watch the HD (Eaglemark) rate magically get lower... they will try to beat that rate. If they can't, then you still have a lower rate than what they can provide you. Bottom line... They want that interest, make them work for it.

And incidentally, it's not a toy to some people. I didn't work for twenty years toward buying a "toy". It is part of my soul and holds much more importance to me. I intend on keeping my bike for as long as I can ride it, then i'll probably trike it. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't call any of our vehicles "toys". They all serve a very definite purpose. Otherwise, we wouldn't have put out the money to buy and maintain them.

It may be just a toy for some, that's fine, but not everyone feels that way about their bike.

Good luck on your purchase.

HDFS beat my credit union (American Airlines CU), I was shocked honestly.

The thing that irks me about Harley financing is they charge me a f$cking service charge to pay my bill. It's only a few bucks and I'm sure it was in the fine print somewhere, but I agreed to $x per month, not $x plus $5 per month.

What method of payment are you using? I'm not getting charged any service fees, I send them a check every month. Call them and ask about the fee. One thing I find interesting is that they reduce my next payment when I pay more than the agreed monthly amount. I've put in enough extra so that now I get a statement with a zero payment due. I've never seen this before, even when I've paid ahead of the scheduled amount they still ask for the agreed payment each month

you have other options that do not cost you anything. you can always write a check and put it in the mail (okay, that one costs you postage). or you can set it up so that the payment is automatically drafted from your checking account. no worries about whether you scheduled the payment, mailed the check, etc. no charge for that one.

My CU (Navy Federal) is like that with my car loan and credit card.

Interesting. I'd only seen it with HD credit so far.

Well craptastic... my CU stopped financing bikes last year (State Employees) so that option went down the crapper. I feel like I have a decent deal going on a bike... and I'm approved for it... but like everyone else has said.. the interest rate is out of control. I don't have perfect credit... and I don't have horrible credit... I just can't see paying more than 10% on anything even with small imperfections on a credit score. I understand it's a "pleasure" titled machine and may be different than having an automobile but dang. Still have another route to go.... maybe.

Most Dealerships will even do a "Buyers assist." Find a bike from a private seller and they will still finance. I bought a 2003 Roadglide like that. They will even sell you a warranty. I have had the best luck with my Credit union but to each their own.

You can always join another credit union that finances bikes. Shop around! I belong to a credit union, but I joined another one just to finance my car because their rates were better. I just opened a savings acct. with a little $$.
