Just order the set of the flat gaskets from my earlier post link and they should work just fine (assuming you have the correct pipes)....V&H Pipes don't fit well with the tapered gaskets you were trying to use before - they have a different flange - and even if you got them to fit, they would keep loosing up and create exhaust leaks.
Don't over-think the process, changing pipes is not that difficult with the correct parts & tools.
Me and my Indie mech changed out my pipes and installed some Samson Hell Raisers. As soon as I fired it up I heard some weird ticking that got worse with rpm's. My Indie is almost deaf so he was of no help. I rode it for a weak and it sounded like someone was hitting my front cylinder with a ball peen hammer.
Took it back and after ruling everything out he took off the front pipe and what do you know ? no gasket was there. We both forgot to install a new one and after it was installed no more racket down there. My guess is there's a gasket there for a reason.
