Installing new exhaust

I'm just gonna try again with new type of gaskets.
I threw the conical mesh gaskets away because they got messed up in the process and this way they just block exhaust flow.
It's winter now so I won't be riding the bike in another 3-4 months, so I got time..

Without a part number or a picture answering your question is difficult.
Just order the set of the flat gaskets from my earlier post link and they should work just fine (assuming you have the correct pipes)....V&H Pipes don't fit well with the tapered gaskets you were trying to use before - they have a different flange - and even if you got them to fit, they would keep loosing up and create exhaust leaks.
Don't over-think the process, changing pipes is not that difficult with the correct parts & tools.

Me and my Indie mech changed out my pipes and installed some Samson Hell Raisers. As soon as I fired it up I heard some weird ticking that got worse with rpm's. My Indie is almost deaf so he was of no help. I rode it for a weak and it sounded like someone was hitting my front cylinder with a ball peen hammer.
Took it back and after ruling everything out he took off the front pipe and what do you know ? no gasket was there. We both forgot to install a new one and after it was installed no more racket down there. My guess is there's a gasket there for a reason.
