Default Tools for the Shop

Hey - After riding primarily metrics for 20 years (with one exception) and now owning this superb '07 Street Glide...I am going to be re-setting a shop for myself (lost most of my tools when I moved 4 years ago).

Can any of you recommend some tools (other then the "basics" - subjective word, yes) that I'll want to have on hand that I may not think-of having worked on metrics until now...?

I know - this could be a HUGE list...looking for things a reasonably competent DIY guy like me might not think of. I would not be doing any heavy work (inside the primary, tranny, etc.)...the basics only.

Thanks,

SG

Depends on what your doing in your garage. Basic maintenace? Attaching basic aftermarket parts? Tearing the entire front end off to replace it with a springer? Rebuilding the entire engine as a performance build from the ground up?

If your doing just basic maintenace and bolt-ons a simple decent sized mechanics set from Craftsman will suffice, plus a box to put em in. With a selection of general shop items (fluids, rags, ect) and shop tools (a lift, jack, etc) you'd be fine.

If you plan to do serious work on the bike, hell I don't have time or space to type THAT list, suffice to say order the Snap On catalog and start buying because it ain't gonna be cheap at that point.

Good quality Torx bits or sockets - Craftsman or better. HD put thread lock on most of those bolts, and they will twist a cheap Torx bit until it is useless (ask me how I know!)
