The pair I wear now I bought at the dealer, who closing them out. Plain, 6 inch, laced, dress boots with no reinforcement. Comfortable off the bike. The only downside is they are too shiny! Thus, I applied one coat of mink oil and refuse to polish them. They look like maybe Bates made them for HD. My reserve boot is a Wolverine 6 inch hiking boot.
Double H boots for my riding boots. I have the engineer boots in black and brown. If you are into the logger style boots look into Thorogood, just got a pair of these in steel toe and dam are they comfy. All of these mentioned are proudly made in USA!
I hate wearing "duty" boots. Too much time in the military and then when I worked at a PD. I much prefer the slip-on type boots.
After a nightmare with HD Hustin (harness) boots, and a pair of harness boots and engineer boots that were bought online, I finally went to a boot store and bought some Dingo boots. Much better!!
I have a newer pair or Redwing Engineer boots and 8" Frye harness boots. I end up barely wearing the Redwings because my old Frye boots are so comfortable and grip the pegs better, the Redwings have a harder sole that is not very grippy to me. They are also a pain in the *** to get on and off.
How are those 12" Frye harnesses to get on and off? The 8" are great but I may like to try the 12" in the future.
Not a problem !! I wear thicker boot socks that are mid calf so my socks don't drag off with the boots !! If its an issue get a boot jack for a few bucks !! Love my USA Fryes with the rubber non slip sole !
I've got 2 pairs of boots,
1st set is from Dillards which are "echo" brand boots, very comfy, look like a swat style. Lace up only, wear them daily including work, concrete floors, but rarely use them for riding because they only have a 6" height to them, pant leg pulls above when riding..
2nd pair are Bates with a 9" height, both laceup and zipper which is a nice feature. Use these for riding but "hated the buckle" on them which was for looks only and the 1.75" heel height. Cut the buckle off but still can't get used to the heel height! Feels like I'm "tipping forwards"!
So now I'm going to order the "HD Camshaft boots" which are similar to the Bates as far as shaft height but with a 1.5" heel height which I like and no Buckle...We'll see how they wear.
Been through 3 pairs of Side Zip Tactical Bates boots. they last 1-2 years. They are more comfortable than sneakers for me and one of the few boots I have found available in a wide width in the bunyon area but without being too wide everywhere else.
I decided to spend a little more this time and got the HD Stealth boots, which are all leather, in the hopes they would last longer than the tactical type whose uppers are nylon. Have had them 4 months so I can't speak on longevity yet.
