After 40 yrs got my first ticket for my helment right here in my home town. I even ride in states with no helment law with my little bennie. Guess it's a good thing I went ahead and ordered one of those DOT bennies last week.

Just out of curiosity, what is the going rate for not wearing the proper helmet where you live?
How does a LEO know you had an illegal helmet? Only way he could prove that is conduct an engineering based destructive test on it.
When you go to court, ask the LEO on what training, expertise and knowledge did he base his opinion your beanie was not DOT approved.
Due to the lack of engineering proof, Ca cops quit writing beanie helmet tickets 20 years ago.

$115 for local and he told me $220 if state had of pulled me over. Once I pull over I got off the bike and took the helment off and stuck it on the sissy bar. He just walked up and said, "the reason I pulled you over was because of your helment"; and grabed my it and showed me the little tag inside. Ain't going to fight it, I'll go to court with my new helment, (that came in the mail today) and just hope the judge throws it out. Oh, I don't really like the new one but I'll deal w/it. It's not that bad but don't fit well with a cap on. Hadn't tried a boggin yet.
