Used to go up there in 60s & 70s up through the 90s. Nice area of the country. Don't know how the rally is anymore, but I know from going in the 90s, it was nothing like the 70s! haha

I'll be going through Laconia...but not during bike week.
A few of us want to go ride the white mountains.
Gotta swing by my wifes uncles house in Laconia (or right next to it..I forget)..he's from the old days of the local club and has an old springer is his garage I keep nudging him to sell me.

I've been going to Laconia since the 70's, it used to be a lot of fun.
The fun stopped when they no longer let people park along the side of the road
next to Paugus bay. Now, they funnel all the traffic to paid parking areas, or the strip.

Some of the best burnout shows, party's, etc were along the road leading to the Weirs.
I've seen a group of bikers block off that road in 2 places with junk cars, then proceed
to burn the tires off more junk cars in the parking lots, and set them ablaze.
But the time the cops got though the roadblocks, everyone was just standing there watching the fires, they had no one to arrest or blame, unless they arrested everyone.

Now, it nothing more than a family carnival, same old crap every year, with family's with baby's in carriages walking along next to bikes with open pipes. What the hell are these idiots thinking bringing babies to bike week?

It's become so bad that I saw a state cop make a guy pickup all the cigarette butts on the side of the road for at least a 100 ft stretch because the cop caught him flicking his butt in the gutter! That's freaking ridiculous!
When you get near the bridge at the Weirs, you are forced to go through a gauntlet of cops, that walk right up to you, sniffing for illegal substances or booze, especially at night.
Try and turn around to avoid the gauntlet will get you looked at real careful like.

It's pretty much lost it's luster for me, I liked the old days, and the old ways..

I might take a ride up there, but it will be on a weekday, I'm too old to be sitting in traffic for 2 hours just to get to the strip on a weekend day.
One year the traffic was so bad, it took us over 2 hours to get from the bay road turnoff up to the Weirs. It was so hot, bike were overheating everywhere, not my idea of fun.

They want $10 to get into a fenced off area where they sell stale beer for $7 a small cup. Screw that BS!

I go to see what the builders bring to show, could care less about the rest of it. I'd rather go to the raceway, or the hillclimbs, than get stuck in all that traffic. Weds, and thurs are best for avoiding the crowds.
