I wear mine when it is cold or the chance of rain.

Are there any con's to them? I bought my bike 2 weeks ago and just started to ride her to work yesterday. It was 38 deg yesterday. Do you wear yours all the time or only when it gets below a certain temp. I am assuming riding around town you won't wear them but on any kind of a road trip you would?
I've never found chaps to be especially warm. I wear 'em for protection. Ever had a truck throw a rock and put a gravel star on your windshield? Imagine it hitting you shin -- that's what chaps are about. To a lesser degree they'll protect you if you end up skidding on pavement. And on a Harley, they protect you from the pipes (which people think are chrome but are really white hot.)
If it's cold or rainy, I wear overpants. If it's a nice day I wear chaps.
