Is there a way to fix stock harley warped rotors? Ive read about using a dial indicator and using a bar or plumbers wrench to gently pull back into true, but only if its 13k's or less. What if they are more warped than that?
Auto rotors can be turned down and Im wondering if harley rotors can be pressed or made true. or is it just cheaper to buy a new set and replace.
For front touring thats 2 rotors at over 200 bucks.
I'm not sure of the minimum resurface specifications of the HD rotor but I'd be hard pressed to believe that there would be enough "meat" ( especially on a solid rotor ) to be able to refinish them and have them be thick enough to meet the minimum specification. Also, in most/many cases heat is the primary cause of warping ( especially on a solid rotor ) and machining them would ,only make it more susceptible to warping.
I thought I was going to have to replace mine when my front wheel came off ramp of a trailer and hit rotor. Indy checked with dial indicator and was able to pull into place and worked great. On another note I have bought them polished pretty reasonable from eBay.
OP - even if it's possible to shave the HD rotors to true them up, doing so would very likely leave you with discs so thin they would be even more susceptible to warping in the very near future as already said above. Harleys are expensive, lives are 'priceless' and personally I wouldn't cut corners on something like brakes. Hope you make the right choice.
