I used a CV Performance kit to rejet my carb and I was very happy with the results and how easy it was. If you don't have a lot of experience working with carbs and just want to go to Stage 1 quickly and easily, then I recommend the CVP kit.
If you have the time and patience to learn and tinker, then it's probably worth reading the stuff the guys above mentioned and figuring it out on your own.
Yup agree, no need for those fancy tuning kits. Just buy a few main jets and a few pilot jets . Then pop the plug on the mixture screw and knock yourself out lol!
This is what I was thinking, I would take my current jets out, see what I have, figure out which ones I want and go out and get them. I am just trying to get a good air /fuel mixture with nice tan spark plugs, no need for drilling, overhauling etc. I prefer the KISS method ( Keep it Simple silly). LOL!

Its a good plan, but don't expect tan spark plugs. That's pretty much a thing of the past. Todays fuels and leaner burning engines just don't read like they used to.
