i just joined this forum and i can't believe what i'am reading.if you don't getit after riding a harley you never will.
Every time I hear someone say this I have to laugh. It is just so lame. Sure I love my bike. I love both of my bikes. My Suzuki included. But this whole "getting it" thing is just weird. I guess I just dont "get it".
Like you said Ken it's BS when you don't consider apples and apples! Your compareing a FULL DECKED OUT all the bells and whistles ULTRA to a stripped down small crusier!!
Lets compare a full decked out HD Ultra to a full dressed out all the bells and whistles Metric V twin and you don't get them for 6500bucks!!
The full dressed out Yamys I seen were in the 17grand area!! and after a year or two they are in the 10 grand resale range.
If were going to compare 6500 Suki Bolavard bikes to a HD then it would have to be the 883 Sportster NOT the ULTRA!! And Sportsters get alot of their dollars back on resale.
Also lets take that 6500 Suki and load it with every chrome goodie there is for it and buy some top price bags and a flairing and a radio set up and a tourpac and THEN lets look at 2 year old resale to total price!!
Point being the GOODIES lose resale way more way faster than the basic bike does!
Then lets keep that HD for 6 years and sell it compared to a 6 year full derssed decked out metric. Now lets compare them at 10 years! I'll keep my Harley.

I can't make your assessment work out based on data from the Suzuki, HD and Kelly Blue Book websites. This is all data directly from the sites. I looked at a cruiser and a touring bike comparison of seemingly similiar bikes.
A 2006 Boulevard C90 had an MSRP of $10,499 and now has a Kelly BB value of $7920. That is a drop of 25% or $2579.
A 2006 Fat Boy had a MSRP of $17,155(color and fuel injection) and now has a KBB value of $15,970. That is a drop of 7% or $1185.
A 2006 Boulevard C90T had an MSRP of $11,499 and now has a KBB of $8890. A drop of 23% or $2609.
A 2006 Road King Classic had an MSRP of $18,170 (color, factory security, fuel injection) and now has a KBB of $16,845. That is a drop of 7% or $1325.
I would hope that no one would actually pay MSRP for a Boulevard, so that would help a bit. But, Harley's do hold value much better and any analysis you do will show it.
Sounds like you got a great deal on your custom depending on mileage and other factors.
Why pay $16,000 for a bike that cost $17,000 new? I don't get it. It's amazing that people are still paying those prices for used Harleys. But it sure is good if you're selling.

I suppose so. Just like there are Trekkies and people that watch Star Trek.

I hear ya, that's why after shopping the used market for several months I decided to buy new.

If you love Suzuki so much go to a Suzuki forum and tell them.

Here's my take on So-pukey - got THE MAMA a savage to learn on. Lousy quality fit & finish, too much maintenance, and So-pukey's warranty ain't worth spit. Muffler developed a hole after about a year. So-pukey says, "Normal wear & tear, not a warranty item". Wanted nearly $300 for a new one.
