One of my employees and I are going shopping for a metric cruiser in a few mins. He likes the suzuki boulevard (sp). It's no Harley but will be fun anyways. From a distance it's hard to tell anymore.
I traded my 05 Boulevard on for my FXD. I had countless riders ask me what type of "Harley" it was. Many of htose folks were riding Harleys. If I were going to go back to metric, the M50 Boulevard wold be the only bike inthe cruiser class I would even consider. Underpowered to say the least, but the styling is very nice, and the ride (save for the seat) is next to butter. I had mine debadged, and you did not have to be 5 miles away to confuse it with an HD. The radiator of course was a dead giveaway, but most folks don't pick up on that. The best was when the HD guys would say nice bike...what is it. When I said it was a Suzuki, most of the time they would still say nice bike. It is a nice bike, and I'd have one again in a minute.
My wife had a 650 Boulevard (formerly know as a Savage). She now has an 883L. She loves it. The S40 (her 650) was just too light, and too small. A great beginners bike (sort of like the 883), but quickly lost its luster for her. The 883L may as well at some point, but so far, I have seen no signs of her feeling that way.
Nothing wrong with the metric bikes. The price points are better for someone starting out or getting back into it. As far as ones that seem good? VTX 1800 and the M109 are nice bikes. I would not trade my Harley for one, but if you are not gonna do an HD, then those two are good alternatives..

Hmmmm.. office window has a great view of a maincommuting street into town. Harley goes by, Yamabag goes by, Boulevard goes by, a nice Vic goes by... can tell the difference.
But, enjoy your rides. Buy me a beer and show me the bike someday!
As a current owner of a 2006 Honda VTX1800C...I think the metric cruisershave a lot going for them! The Honda sitting next to my new Fat Boy in the garage, albeit a metric...is a much better designed and performing motorcycle! But it is not a Harley! I don't ride her anymore, but ithas more HP and torque than my HD could ever pump out, and will stop on a dime and give you change! HD should pay close attention to what the Japs are doing! Just ask GM and Ford about that!
