I didn't see any straps holding your bike on the jack. Was the bike stable or did it wobble at all or feel shaky?
I have never used any straps with my J&S.
I have changed both tires, several top end gasket kits (different bikes), removed transmission, removed front end, changed rear shocks, and whatever else I have had to do.
As long as you screw down the stabilizers it is just fine.
Anyone who owns a J&S jack has never even thought about strapping the bike down, that's how stable they are.
And the OP didn't even have the jack in the fully extended position! I've changed my rear tire several times with the bike all the way up on the lift. No wobbling, no instability. Best investment I made after I purchased the bike!
I have one, great tool. If you are looking for a jack and can swing the extra bucks, get one. I got the oil drain shield with mine for free. It was a promotion they were running. That works well too.
It seems like there's some sort of fanatic Jonestown cult surrounding these magical, mystical jacks. Or maybe when you buy one, you have to sign some sort of contract like this:
TERMS AND CONDITIONS: In taking possession of the J&S jack, purchaser hereby agrees to the following conditions:
a) Purchaser shall post an announcement on an appropriate internet forum stating that he/she has just purchased a J&S jack and how much he/she likes said jack. b) Purchaser shall periodically post messages on internet forums stating how he/she has used the jack for specific tasks and how no other jack could possibly fulfill this function. Such messages shall be posted no less than once per year for the duration of this contract. c) Purchaser shall periodically post messages on internet forums dire warnings about the dangers of using jacks made by Harbor Freight. Such warnings shall include but not be limited to: i. Inevitability of motorcycle falling over on Harbor Freight jack. ii. Chinese manufacture of Harbor Freight jack. ii. Cannot climb on motorcycle while on Harbor Freight jack. Postings which fulfill this subpart requirement shall not be construed to also fulfill requirements of subpart b). d) Failure by the Purchaser to comply with any or all of these Terms and Conditions for the duration of this contract shall result in repossession by the Manufacturer of the J&S jack. Purchaser shall forfeit purchase price along with any applicable state and local taxes and/or shipping fees.
