Hello everyone, just a quick story on my situation. I had a wreck about 6 weeks ago and while sitting on the side of the road the only thing i could think of to do was send it to the dealership where i bought it.
All the parts were officially ordered aound 4-5 weeks ago and it seems the only holdup is the painted parts (gas tank,rear fender)from harley. Its a 2004 Heritage Softail in vivid black. With black being the most common color you would think it would be easy. No so!
I make an appearance at the dealership around 1-2 times a week to check on the status and all the service manager will tell me is that they are waiting for Harley to send the parts. Another 2 weeks or sohe says. I think this is crap. A company as big as Harley SHOULD be able to do better than this. The service manager also told me that HARLEY DOES NOT provide them with a contact or number to call regarding this matter.The service guys at the dealership have been really coool about it and say they want the wrecked bikes out so they can have some room. Im tired of waiting and have missed several rides for hurt and fallen fellow police officers and fireman due to this.
Anyone have any idea of how to write, email , or anything to get some response from Harley? I found the address and phone number off the website. Just wondering if you guys had any contacts i could use?? Any advice?
This is REALLY pissing me off making a payment and waiting forthem to fix my bike. I need to do something.....
I had a similar situation a few years back when my bike was brand new. I was being seariously screwed with by the dealer so after the bike had been in the shop for 4 straight weeks with no results I wrote a letter to Harley davidson in Milwaukee.
Two days after dropping the letter in the mail box I recieved a phone call from Milwaukee and they said that they would contact the dealer and get this matter cleared up ASAP. The next day the dealership contacted me for the first time and told me that my bike was ready. [:@]
I believe I got the address from my owners manual. I just did a search for the letter on my computer but I came up empty. That was a few years ago.
Unfortunately...Painted parts are the most difficult to obtain from Harley. I 'believe' that they schedule them into their production...Can't recall what they told me when I was in York and asked the Q. I waited two months for a new tank back in 93 because someone had put a thumb/palm print on the Vivid Black then clear coated over it. When I had the bike in for repairs in 2003 following my accident, it took six to seven weeks to get the painted parts.But when they did get the parts, they were perfect and the pinstriping and tank decal was identical to what was on the bike originally. In the 14 years I've owned the HD, I've had the tank, front fender, side covers, andboth saddlebags replaced with new parts.The quality has always been exceptional.I've heard that it is easier to get 'unfinished' parts, but have never inquired about them.
I'm going to order lowers for my RG in vivid black. When I asked the dealer how long it would take he said 2 to 12 weeks. He said they paint one color at a time so it depends when they happen to be on your particular color. Ya never know if your getting a run around or if they really know what they are talking about. ??? Go figure.
