Absolutely get the "Ride Like a Pro" video. I bought the DVD and praticed the manuvuers before attending the course. I had not riden for twenty years. I couldn't believe how the techniques taught in the video helped me, and how many poor habits I had developed when I rode before. You will notice an improvement immediately.
Don't get down about not passing the course. Nearly a third of all folks fail based on the stats from the MSF.
Get the video, practice in an empty lot (many times) and take the course again. I also agree that $75 for private lessons is reasonable... You've only got one life so learn to ride and ride safe.
Hay borrow some kids bike and hit a parking lot and do the basics with the bike. No your not going to be slipping the clutch and you don't have the weight issues like yu do with your Mototcycle, BUT you can work on looking thru the turns and countersteering and it won't cost you anything and can help learn the basics. Heck do it out on the street in front of your house.
Also if your bikes heavy like a bagger you should try slideing yur butt slightly to the high side while doing slow tight turns to help counter ballence the weight, I have to with my Ultra or I aint got a shot at the lil box and it makes the big box easier for me too.
