Your opinions needed on a new glass concept with HD design.
After working with the black glass in the Scary Clown I decided I really liked the contrast given when light comes through a colored glass and the black glass which will not pass light. I got this idea of making hanging headers to go across the top of a window yet leaving the rest of the window as it is. In other words it would be like the stickers that cross the top of a car window, but made of glass for the home.
The splash of color design set in black glass will give a bright bang of color while the black cuts off the top 6 or more of the window. Because these are designed to hang, no modifications to the actual window is required and they can be removed at any time.
Width of the black would vary from piece to piece to fit the window opening while the height would vary depending on taste. Obviously there is a limit on how short it can be made because the individual pieces of glass become too small to grind.
This is a design, strongly influenced by Harley Davidson, is 6 tall and designed at 18 wide but will change to fit the window.
This design, also strongly influenced by Harley Davidson, is 9 tall and designed at 18 wide but would change to fit the window.
What do you all think of the concept of making the top of a window black except for a pop of bright color?
I got to play with the design software again, but I dont think the wife will let me make a bunch of these for sale. It is too close to a copyrighted image. I will be making one or both of these to verify that it works the way I picture it. Any preference of one or the other?
I like the idea! I think it would turn out really well. I personally like the second design. You are correct about being too close to the Harley logo. Don't want the MOCO coming after you. I did some flat glass work in high school. I actually won the "Silver Key" award at the Butler Art Museum in Youngstown Ohio, for a piece I did. It's hanging in my mom's front entryway at her house. The clown turned out great too. Keep posting pics of your work. I thoroughly enjoy it.

The second one would be too tall to work as a header but i plan to make it for my dad framed in the "wood" looking glass used in the clown picture.
The only real changes from any official HD design are that I eliminated and merged some feathers and left out the text as it would be too hard to do without using paints.
You're a Harley rider. Harley riders do NOT ask permission from women for ANYTHING!
That looks fantastic, BTW...Go ahead & make as many as you want. Tell her Dickey said so!
yep, that got me to laughing.
The wife is the one who sells everything and has the business license. After i have made one, it looses its fun. If she won't sell them why make them?
It really is about getting in trouble over copyright crap. That is why we stopped making the state football logos and chit. No point in getting into it with the moco or anyone else who can really screw us up financially.
We do this for fun, we spend by far more than we make doing it. It isn't for the money. I am sure you can understand being a musician and all. LOL
made of stained glass. What do you think of the black glass surrounding the colored glass? This being very non-traditional concept in flat glass I wanted the opinions of the general public.
