First let me start by saying hello. My question is I have a 2008 Harley with the 96 engine, I found a 2011 103 engine for sale and don't know if I can swap them and what's needed if I can. Any help would be great
You can do just about anything if you have either a lot of money or a lot of equipment and knowledge on what to do. But I refer to the previous on this one. Why?
Well call me a dumbass but don't those 103's have more power than a 96 .....and I found it for pretty cheap
Numbers on the frame and engine will not match. If the police run the numbers on the engine and it comes back stolen, you will be out of a motorcycle and probably require the services of a lawyer.
What model Harley do you have, and what model is the donor engine coming from? Dyna to Dyna and Softail to Softail should work, I don't know anything about baggers. You can take care of the non-matching number problem with your DMV, but the amount of hassle that is depends on how user hostile your DMV is.
If you're just looking for more power, it might be easier to do a mild build on your 96. Mine runs away from stock 103's and I've got 50,000 miles on it.
For sale is a 103 VTwin engine taken out of my 2011 Harley Limited at 11,432 miles to install a 120R engine. This was done June of 2014. There is nothing wrong with this engine mechanically or cosmetically. It also comes with throttle body, injectors, ACR's, intake plenum, clutch discs, and SE compensator. $2000 firm picked up in Columbus, Ohio/Grove City area. Call or email with any questions. Buy with confidence as it is as described. This engine should fit 2009-2014 and possibly a few years older. It is up to you to make sure it fits your application as engine is not returnable and is sold "as is".........Thanks for looking.
You could probably make it work if you're a good mechanic and fabricator and don't mind doing a lot of work, but it definitely wouldn't be a direct swap.
Intake, exhaust, cams, and a good tune (I stress good) will bring your 96 well past a 103.
