I have a 2004 Haritage and would like to hook up a windshield radio to the accessory (ignition) switch so I don't accidently leave the radio on when I leave the bike.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Since it's going on the windshield, I'd definitely be tapping the wire to the aux lights. They should carry the additional current fine, and will come on and off with the headlights, which is just what you want. I've got a fatboy and have used the aux terminals coming out the back of the headlight for running my phone charger.
The Harley Boom Audio has the power relay tied into the rear tail light.
That way there's power to the radio whether the ignition switch is on or in aux.
If you tie it into the headlights there will only be power when the ignition switch is in the on position. The aux. position doesn't power the head lights.
Go to the Harley site and search "Boom Audio".
Then download the installation instructions.
That will tell you which wire to tap into.
I recommend adding the relay kit to the radio.
It's only around $15.
