I took my bike in to an indy for the 15k service and a tire change. I get the invoice back and it is $500. I am like "WTF".
I have a temper so I didn't even look at the bill til I got home. Seems like they changed the primary and tranny fluids as well as put in a new spark plug. I don't claim to be the brightest bulb in the pack but I have never seen those changes listed on the HD service schedule for 15k.
Weird thing is, I went to the HD service center to check their prices. He said they are on sale for $xxx. What does that include? He says, "everything... primary and tranny..." I also asked if they had anything in writing about the service schedule and he was oblivious and pointed me to the sign and the website showing it was on sale.
Do these people just make sheet up or are they just jamming the customer for more cash?
BTW, they used house brand fluids without asking too.
I've got the best mechanic, he never over charges or does anything I didn't request. He never makes a mistake either. My mechanic is me, you should try that
15k sounds right for Tranny and primary fluid change. And unless they have a reason (make more money) I would be shocked if they offered a higher quality oil without you asking. Basic oil is generally what people want (cheaper) and they usually have a higher mark up so more money in their pocket. At this point ride the bike until the next change than, if you want do it yourself. Pretty easy job and then you know what oil is going into your bike. Let me know if you want to move up to AMSOIL next change (no oil thread war intended here)
Point of the thread was - the work was performed that is not on the 15k regular service schedule (what I asked for), was not authorized, and the fluids were not authorized on the work order.
Yep lol. I mean it sounds like you got a 15k service nothing more (outside of the tires) nothing less (assuming they did check all the points they are supposed to)...at least in HD's book that is.

Are you complaining about the indy or the dealer? Did you not ask about the cost before authorizing the work?
Most of the dealers that I've checked with include primary and transmission fluid change with each service. I do most of my own services and also change all fluids every 5k. Even though primary and transmission fluid change is not required every 5k by the manual, it's good to keep the fluids clean and really is easy to change anyways.
Surprised they didn't ask you what type of fluid you want though.
