don't know if the OP is still on here or not. i was just wondering how he was doing ? it's been a full year since my last post on this thread and i have come along way. back to riding with a fake leg and enjoying life again. i hope he's doing the same.
Glad to hear. How's your walking with a few brews? I never interpreted your original post as drinking and riding. Walking while impaired in your own house is your business.
Anybody hear from the OP?

i BBQ'ed tonight and have had three beers all night and walk just fine. i stumble without over drinking ,LOL! the point i was trying to make was you just have to give your body time to adapt to any injury like this. give it time and you will adapt. you have to have the will and desire to get back where you were. i know first hand how someone would just want to give up, but you just can't. support from family and friends is a big thing here . i couldn't wait to get back on a bike of some sort. Hell, i bought this new trike and didn't even know how i was going to shift it. i shifted with a string tucked into my pants the first night i had it. i had broken my back also so it took me alittle longer to get back, but i bought my trike 10 months after my accident. i wish the very best to the OP and hope he's doing well.
I have a friend that is riding a bike with a knee down left prosthetic. His biggest problem is the sidestand.
I never installed the extensions on mine on either of my bikes. I always use my hand to pull them out, the bikes are low enough that it works ok. Something that may be an option for him.

there are a few people who installed a cable operated kickstand on their bikes. looks like it works well. tell your friend to do a search om here or just on the internet.
WOW! he still has his own knee and that's a big plus. i think that tire just might have been alittle sticky after that burn out. he can ride that thing ,that's for sure.
Dammit, your brain is in the right place. You know how to assess and control the situation and that tells me you will do okay. I won't go any further with that.
Anyway, I'm with your decision I would have done the same thing. Live your life - and if they throw lemons at you make lemonade.
Thanks for posting and I wish you the very best. We could use more guys like you in this country. Get back up and ride safe!
Edit: dang, just noticed the original post date: 8/20/2015. I only saw the 8/20/201? and clicked "reply". I still wish the OP well and hope he is still riding.
