I do a fair amount of riding at night and my 06 Ultra doesn't have the best lighting system. I went to the Harley dealer for better bulbs and he wanted $105 for the head light and 2 spot lights. When no one was looking he said something about getting bulbs at Napa etc for a bunch less. He said the same bulb he sells can be had for a fraction of the price somewhere else. I didn't get any part numbers cause there was another guy there and I didn't want to get him in trouble. Do you guy's know what he is talking about. I want to do the headlight and both spot lights.
If he mentioned NAPA then he may have been talking about the Wagner TruView bulbs. I do a good amount of business with NAPA and was given a set to "test" in my Dodge RAM pickup. They are definitely brighter and whiter than the standard bulbs but nothing like a HID system. For costing a hair more than the standard bulbs I was really impressed with the TruView bulbs.
Now...do they carry them for bikes? I haven't a clue.

The Wagners do not have any covering on the bulb itself to emulate a HID system. They are clear but brighter and whiter than a standard halogen bulb.

EDIT: I just spoke to a NAPA guy and he didn't see a listing for Harley's but he did say that all they do is add a letter to the back end of the bulb number. For instance, a standard 9004 bulb would be a 9004TV in the TruView line. Maybe if you could get the number off the stock bulb you could call NAPA and ask.
Halogen headlamps are H4 style, meaning they have two filaments for hi & lo beam. If the spotlamps are halogen-type plug-ins, they'll be H3, meaning just one filament.
Are you sure that your headlight and driving lights are aimed correctly? Mine are not, and I'm too lazy to aim them, and as a result, I don't have the visibility that I know that I should...maybe I'll do something about this tomorrow morning...
