Stupid question I know, but my grips have become quite tacky. What do you guys clean your grips with to bring them back to the way they were when the bike was new ?
Replace them. They're super cheap. Probably the cheapest thing in the building!
Cut the old ones off. Clean the bar/throttle sleeve with isopropyl alcohol (or rubbing alch.)
Make sure you put the correct grips on the correct side of the bars. (The throttle side will be easier to squeeze, as it's thinner.)
Go get some aerosol hair spray (I use Aquanet as it's cheap and it WORKS.)
Spray on the bars and inside the grip. You've got only a few seconds to get the grip on straight before the spray sets up. Give it 24 hours to take a perm set. Go ride.
My new ones were tacky from day one, so I was wearing gloves to stop my hands from sticking to them. I replaced them with "custom" grips, I tried soap and water and other cleaners. It's worth ever dollar not to feel like I'm holding the wrong end of a popsicle.
Go to Amazon.com and search for "Grab-On" grip covers. About $15. They are made from a foam rubber/poly material and slip on over your existing stock grips. They give you a very comfortable "feel", don't slip, but are not too tacky. I've found them addictive and don't like not having them on anymore.
