Some of you older guys should remember Dick Allen. He was an original, and contributed much to the Harley biker world - mag wheels, disc brakes, belt drives, good working spring forks, 2-into-1 collector systems, and plenty of other stuff. Here is a pretty excellent article about him:
Enjoy, and notice what comes shining through - a man who lived his life in a very unassuming manner, giving way more than he ever got, and who took care of his friends even when they didn't take care of him.
I remember him from old Supercycle/Iron Horse/Street Chopper/Custom Chopper of the late 70's/80's, and Roth's Choppers magazine (late 60's) when I was a teen.
My school homework papers were covered in chopper sketches and doodles..
He and Joe Hurst used to do stuff together- the golden era which included Kenny Howard (Von Dutch) and Ed (Big Daddy) Roth. http://bikedel.blogspot.com/2010/08/...joe-hurst.html http://www.dadscyclemags.com/categor...ustom-chopper/

Yep, I remember plenty of them with the 2.75x17 front wheels. On a sorta related topic, notice the legs on the springer in your pic, how they go from round at the top to square at the bottom? Pretty sharp.
