How far do you have to go before you can open it up?
I have to go 1-1/2 miles in 2nd gear, 25mph tops, around slow twisty roads, to get out of my community. That puts me on a 2 lane country road, 30 to 40mph and more twisties. Add in deer and turkeys, and it's 4 miles of holding back, aside from one or two stretches where I might hit 50.
By now I'm about 10 minutes out, and finally I can launch up a nice straight incline to the interstate. Ahh, feel the air! It's a lightly used stretch of highway, 65mph, 4 miles to the next exit. Tonight after work I just needed a ride, and I was thinking I'm pretty fortunate compared to the roads where I used to live.
How about you guys? How long/far do you have to go before you can wind it out?
Two/10ths of a mile and I'm onto a county road posted 55 MPH.
Until I hit the blacktop, I basically idle in first gear down our road.
Out of courtesy to my neighbors, I rarely leave home early and/or come home after dark.
