Why would someone want to join HOG and not have the bike? Kinda like the Corvette club you join pay your dues and show up at the rally driving your YUGO

You guys are pretty tough on HOG. Your local chapter must not be very much. I belong to Charlotte NC chapter and they are always planning something and riding somewhere and going to rallys. One guy group books hotel rooms at a discount rate. Someone is always calling or emailing and asking if you want to take an impromptu ride. They do a lot of charity work for some causes I personally support. To me, the membership fee is worth what I get in return.

But that's just my opinion, your mileage may vary

Hey all...

I need some educatin here I guess. I'm new to Harley and as a result I got the first year HOG membership with the bike, blah blah... Also been contacted by the local chapter (Bluegrass chapter out of Lexington, KY). Anyway, I have yet to participate in any HOG events as work's a bitch etc. but from what I can tell, it seems like a pretty decent group with a lot of great rides scheduled, charity events, meet/greet/eat.. etc.

I guess my question is what's up with the HOG bashing?? Again, I'm new to all this so in a nutshell, please enlighten me on the whole HOG good/bad thing please.

Most of the folks that "bash" HOG, have either just had thier one year free membership and never followed up on it to its full extent.(They got a pin, patch, and a couple magazines and think thats all there is to HOG)OR, Tryed a local HOG Chapter and couldn't fit in,OR, never even come close to a HOG chapter and just think of HOG Members as RUBS,POSERS.

Realistically, if you have an "Active" Local Chapter, it can be a good jumping off point for findng riding partners, or meeting up with folks that are like minded in thier love of Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

HOG has it's advantages if you are a tourer, and ride your motorcycle long distances. It also proves as an advantage if you do the Fly and Rides, or Structured Tours. Alot of dealers that sponser the Local Chapter also offer discounts on Parts and Accesories to thier Chapter Members.

But it is also not for everyone because it does have some "stucture" to it and some folks just can't seem to conform to the slightest form of structuring.

Well said,
Still waiting for our 'free one year' with the 03 Sportster here in DC. Wasn't part of the local plan back then, or if it was, wasn't offered. Don't matter know. As SteelCityScooter spoketh, we joined the National for many reasons, and I guess in the minds of many, must have been for the Patch. But it does work from Ocean City MD to Paducah, KY so far.
