I've always found road signs, stop signs, traffic signals, and traffic laws, etc to be mere suggestions. Still alive, never been in an accident, and never been ticketed...and just about everyone who has ever ridden with me or been a passenger in my car thinks I'm a crazy driver. Just goes to show how terrible most American drivers are.
There's a big difference between rural and city riding. In the city, I always stop, and look back and forth several times. In the country, flat ground, I may have a clear view for a mile, and will just do a California stop.
I stop...foot down. Well most of the time. I have been known to slow real slow when I have a good line of sight for other traffic. Not a good practice but just laziness on my part
For me it depends on the sight line at the intersection. If I can see the oncoming traffic from at least two blocks away, I might roll on. Otherwise, I make full stops. Especially at traffic lights.
Every stop is an opportunity to practice putting the motorcycle exactly where I want it without see sawing the bars and without having to stab my foot at the ground. I return my foot to the peg/board the instant the rear wheel is engaged by the clutch.
