Full stop, left foot down.. sometimes both if I know the light is a long one.

Full stop may have saved me from a bad day yesterday. I pulled up to a 4-way stop where the busier road has right turn lanes in it. Texting teen decided to go straight from the right turn lane instead of turning. Had I just been doing the rolling stop (because I thought he was turning and I had the clearance to go straight) he probably would have plowed into me.

Luckily, I noticed what he was doing.

I've not been always at a FULL stop before proceeding, but will now try to grab inspiration from this thread, and also combine it with a NEW habit (not completely new, but not consistent either . . .) that I'm getting from another thread - here:

What'd'ya say we make a full stop, (at least one foot down), and then consider the alternate/out/Plan-B, if we haven't already done so on the decel? We might surprise ourselves, using hind sight for a way out.

That's going to be my goal, from now on.

Hopefully,
John

I view it as practice. Absolutely, full stop, left foot down, look left-right-left, go. Every time. Except...

If I'm in the middle of a group going through a stop sign, and everybody in front of me is doing the slow down and punch it, I'm going to roll through with them. I don't want to get rear-ended by the guys behind me if I'm the only one that stops.

It depends on the situation for me. In traffic usually full stop, with or without feet down, depends on who's around. Some(a lot) places here in the Ozarks the stop sign/intersection is on the crown of a hill, safer to look as you approach and then hit the road running fast as possible. Lost a friend/neighbor few years ago as he was pulling out from a stop sign on a blind hill.

some cities will write a ticket if you don't come to a complete stop and touch one foot down.

If I have to I will.
Got stopped for it once.
Just a PIA though to get these big cumbersome pieces of metal stopped and started.
Once going no issues, but otherwise PIA.
I hate going to Sturgis during the rally, cops standing at ever intersection just watching to see if you do or not. I guess that they don't have anything better to do?

Got a ticket once for coming to a full stop but not putting a foot down. These days I put a foot down.

If there's no cars around, I semi stop...barely rolling...don't put my feet down and go. If I'm going to stop, I'll put both feet down. I don't do just one.

I agree it is a good habit to have, I'll work on it. I stop with the left foot down 98% of the time, local neighborhoods and known intersections and some rural stops, its a pause and go stop I was taught in a motorcycle class I took. Honestly, I did not know you could get a citation if you don't put your foot down...if you stop, and then go, isn't the point? It is good to know though..especially when traveling through different states and jurisdictions.
