Default Picking a bike?

New to this forum so I apologize in advance if this is posted in the wrong section. So let me get right to it, I've been doing lots of research lately before I just go out and buy a bike I wanted some more opinions. I'm an inexperienced rider, 6'3 tall and weigh 145. I plan on taking a riders safety course in the next few weeks and intend on buying a used bike in the near future. I'm leaning more towards a sportster and wanted to get an idea of what you guys think and what you would reccomend.
Let me know,
Thanks.

Own a Sportster for a couple of years and you will be ready to ditch it for a bigger bike. I speak from experience and I loved my Sporty but there was no way I was taking my wife anywhere on it.

My suggestion is the Dyna Wide Glide which is a very versatile bike.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've got that response a few times from other people I've asked. Im a tall guy with a slim build and can't see myself getting a larger bike. I intend on only riding around my town for awhile. Do you think my height will be an issue with a stock sportster? Or any stock bike for that matter?
Thanks

Go to a dealership and test ride the bikes the you like. Then decide for yourself. Period.

What's your budget that you have set aside for this bike? I would figure out how much you can or want to spend and get the best bike available. Some people buy sportsters and stick with them but most I've known and seen on forums like this buy and then usually trade it or sell to get something bigger before the end of a riding season.

When I say bigger I don't necessarily mean full blown cruiser but there a lot of nice Harley's out there you can find especially used that have a lot of the mods and upgrades your gonna want to do anyways already done and ready to ride

This^. Find a low pressure dealership that will let you sit for a while on each bike, then take some for a test ride. It's gonna be tight on a Sporty.

As stated before the Dyna wide glide is probably the most suitable bike for taller riders. Sits pretty far back, and has forward controls. You'll be pretty big on a Sporty. Or the older Softail Duece if you can find one were great for tall peeps! Good luck!

You ain't gonna be happy on a sportster... if money is your main issue..look at Dynas...if you can afford anything you want ...look at everything, and do the test rides.
