Default Damn tailgaters

Just once, I'd like to be able toride somewhere near the speed limit without having someone right on my ***. I mean, it is EVERY day anymore. Now, this may be wildly unpopular to say, but about 90% of the time, it is women in cars doing this. My wife has taken notice of this too. She tends to ride behind me in traffic, and when I see this happening, I get kinda pissed. Problem is, I am not going to do the kind of things I might typically do if it were a male driver doing this. Maybe this is something specific to my area, but they (women in cars) even do this while I am in my Superduty. I try to hover at, or just above the speed limit most of the time, but I never tailgate. I thought maybe it was just me slowing down in my old age, but I have studied this phenomenon from the drivers seat of my truck, as well as my bike, and I have concluded (unscientifically of course) that people are just rude, or stupid. Nothing more unsettling than to see someone in the rearview so close that I can see the whites of their eyes.

Second complaint is this: When I leave adequate space between myself and the car in front of me, other drivers seem to think I am leaving space for them to pull in-between meand the car in front of me as they pass me.

Sorry to rant, but I am running out of patience. I have no intentions of ever throwing stuff at other drivers, but this type of activity is plain old stupid.

I'm fine now.

I hear you. I find hitting the binders in my truck generally wakes them up. I've heard of guys quietly tossing stuff over their shoulder. I usually just start slowing down; people who are that impatient to tailgate usually will move around me. The other thing I normally do--especially riding--is just pull over and let 'em by and have them tailgate someone else. Life's too short and sweet to give other people the power over my emotions--especially for stuff like that.

It is the same all over, you forgot to mention 99% of the time they are talking on a cell phone. (What is it with them and cell phones, I could make it comment about what would be better time spent and make the world a happer place with their time, but this is really not the place for that) One has to remenber, to the best of my knowledge this is the only county in the world that you can @ 16 just get a license to drive without really knowing how to drive.

Everybody is in a hurry these days. I have had people almost kill themselves trying to pass unsafely just to pull into their driveway!? I just blow them away or let them pass; there's no in-between!

Yeah, I hate tailgaters. If Im on the bike, I usually slow way down or pull over and let them pass. If Im in my big dirty rusty F-150, I slam on the brakes and watch the look on their faces as they either lock up their brakes or swerve around me. Cracks me up everytime.

If you're goin' near the speed limit, stay out of the left lane. 80 is the new 55 around here.

I feel your pain![&:]

It's all a part of the "no respect" mentality that seems to be prevalent these days. These same people run red lights/stop signs, never come to a stop when turning right on red and obviously didn't pay extra for the OPTIONAL turn signals.
