I was doing some filing today and noticed that some of the thermal paper reciepts were starting to fade. So I sat down and inventoried everything on the bike for insurance purposes...Then added in the original cost of the bike/services/warrenty.
I was better of not knowing....this is supposed to be cheaper then driving my car daily
I feel your pain. I just did the same. Dug out all the receipts and made notes with regard to what item it referred to. Scanned all the receipts and notes and took pics of bike. Burned all of it on a disc for insurance.
It would have been a real drag if I hadn't kept all the bike receipts in one file from the beginning.

But the important thing is, which do you ENJOY taking to work (or whereever) more? That in itself should outweigh the actual costs (at least it does to me!)
That's kindof my mentality when I go to Vegas; even if I don't win a single thing, as long as I enjoyed myself, it was probably worth it!
I maintain a meticulous spreadsheet of every part I've added to my bike since new: part number if H-D, source if 3rd party, etc. But I'm very careful to leave the prices off, as well as labor costs. This way, when asked how much I've spent on the bike I can say, hand over heart, "I really don't know." And I really don't want to know, either. I think it's beside the point.
Off the top of my head, I'd say I've spent around 50%, of the purchase price, more on my ride since I got her... and I still have MORE things to get!
However, I have NO regrets at all! Better to have spent the money on something that gives me day after day of pleasure than to have just pissed it away on other stuff... like food or rent, hehehe....
Yup, just did this a while ago. Started totaling everything. ........ Got half way through, then sort of slipped away and made a coffee. Came back and closed everything. Think I'll leave that for another time.[&o]
