I wore chaps one season and gave them up for overpants.
Use the leg of a pair of jeans that fit you to measure-I used that method to trim the pants.

Wore them as is for a few hours yesterday. A little bunched up around the ankles but I think I'll leave them the way they are for now. I might want to trade them for over pants in the future.

you did exactly what i would have done. if they drag on the ground when you walk and get scuffed up and dirty, who cares? the longer they are the more wind they keep out. they look better dirty and scuffed up too.
