I bought a 97 fatboy about 2 months ago. A girl at works husband works for a car dealership who took it in on a trade, but couldnt sell it because it had to sit in there sowroom during the winter months. I got it for $8500. They sold it to me with 3600 miles on it, which is why I thought it was a great deal. I was told the guy who traded it in just let it sit in his garage for several years. We'll, heres the problem. I took it to get it serviced, and turns out wheN i PICKED UP THE BIKE IT HAD 14,000 MILES on it instead of 3k. The guy who traded it in broke the odometer/trip button on the side, and rode it for 3600 miles before trading it in. The dealership said they were going to contact the gentleman because he had to know the actual miles. My question is this. How much of a refund on the bike should I request? How do you figure something like this?
Yup, you are are probably due a refund because of the misrepresentation, but how much do you really like the bike? I think 3600 miles is not much really if you really like it. It probably wouln't hurt to see what kind of response the previous owner gives but if it was mine I would not stress about it too much and just ride!
In Tennesee there are laws against misreporting odometer mileage. You would be entitled toa full refund (plus the dealer would be fined). Get an attorney today, but be prepared to sell it back for what you paid (legal fees are on the plantiff - that's you).
Just out of curiosity how does the dealer know it has 14,000 miles on it?? If the odometer is broken how do you know he put 3600 on it? Is that what you were told.
Just ride and enjoy it. You got a good deal. 14K is not a lot of miles. Would you still have bought it for 8500if you knew it had 14K. I'm beating yes.
One of my pet peeves is somebody always wants something for nothing............no matter what it costs them.

The speedo isn't broken, it was already replaced by the last owner......the Harley dealership, where michaeleast1 took it to be serviced, had the actual milage on their computer
