My dealer gives a free national on purchase of bike. dropped my membership after 8 years. national went up from 40 bucks to 47 bucks!
I can get free maps and more detailed maps at state lines.
Since you're a NewB, I can tell you this...Among REAL bikers, HOG is considered, well,Silly & uncool.
I never cared much what people think of me to be honest...but if I can get any freebies or discounts from this free membership, THAT I do care about...but thanks for the heads up...

So what's your definition of a "REAL" biker? Someone who looks down on others who've chosen to be associated with the largest riding organization in the world? Someone who chooses to disparage another rider because they enjoy the friendships they've made riding with a widely diverse group of people?
My definition of a REAL biker is someone who is a motorcycling enthusiast regardless of the bike they ride or their affiliation to a particular organization or group. But then that's just my opinion.

"Real" bikers do whatever they want...
I got a year from each bike purchase, and bought a 2 or 3 year membership in between. Luckily the year that I just got from my Wide Glide purchase added onto what I already had.
I like the Map and the roadside assistance. that came in useful when my front wheel bearings failed and I didn't know that my bike was still in warranty. (another story on that one)
I received a free 1 year membership to HOG when I bought my Spurtstir. I never heard anything from them, I never received the magazine eiter. I think riding drunk is silly and uncool,... now, but not back when I used to do it, I had a hellova good time ...
