As a newb...wanted to know are ya supposed to get a free membership in H.O.G. when buying a new bike from a Harley dealer...or is that up to the dealer's?
Not sure. H.O.G. is a Harley Corp sponsored group (I know our local H.O.G. rides are insured by Corp Harley, so we have to follow the rules). I got 1 year free. Dealers are making between 20 - 25% on every new bike, so I am sure they will give it to you if you ask.
If you want to join your local HOG chapter (or several) that's up to you. Usually $25-30 annually which will include discount at the dealership or a points system, rights to attend your local chapter meetings and go on rides etc.
For me it's worth the $25 a year because our dealer gives 10% off service, parts and merchandise plus I ride with the HOG group.
Go back and talk to your salesman. Quite often they are too focused on getting you out of there and on to the next deal that they forget to have you sign the HOG paperwork. Many dealerships will also give you a year with the local chapter as well as national.
Some HOG chapters are better than others. Check out your local chapter and, if you live in a large city, other near by chapters. HOG is a social organization and isn't necessarily for everyone. I will say that, if you choose to get involved, you may just make some life long friends in the process.
Congratulations on the new Harley and welcome to the ride!
