Here in Oklahoma, we have to deal with 'em every year. They always come out about the last week of July and when they're out in full force, the sound that they make puts
Vance & Hines to shame.

Good Info and good lookin out bro. Im glad im stationed in Louisiana! LOL
Don't get too happy yet. In La. and Texas they have little bugs called "love bugs". These are not really big, but they are about the most nasty things I have ever gottenon the bike or myself. There are bizillions of them, and the dead ones on the bike are just like trying to wash off grease.
Hey Midwesterners, the Cicadas are coming. Beware. In 1990, last time we were visted, I rode in an older neighborhood with older trees. Fortunately, being a newbie to cycling I had a helmet on. Ran into a 7 pound cicada at about 40 mph. Hit my helmet. Felt like someone hit me with a Louisville Slugger. Lots of greenish, yellow guts on the face shield. Had to pull off to clear my vision. Not a safe situation. Point is, there will be lots of big, slow insects dropping out of trees, overpasses, and just generally in your way. The do-rag ain't gonna help. Prepare. Be safe. From what I've heard, Central Northwest will be experiencing the Cicada emergence in about 10 days. FYI only. No opinions on helmets or rights intended - only be aware..... they are big and slow and can injure.
Took one in the forhead about 60 MPH once ... was seeing stars. Worse than a June bug.
A 7 pound Cicada ? Really ???? come on, Man !!! If you want to see bigguns, come down to Texas, our 10 lb and over ones would eat that thing for lunch !!! Our mosquitos, scare Huey pilots !!!! LOL, JK ,,.......
Yea? Here in Tennessee we get them that have N numbers on their side.
