Hey Midwesterners, the Cicadas are coming. Beware. In 1990, last time we were visted, I rode in an older neighborhood with older trees. Fortunately, being a newbie to cycling I had a helmet on. Ran into a 7 pound cicada at about 40 mph. Hit my helmet. Felt like someone hit me with a Louisville Slugger. Lots of greenish, yellow guts on the face shield. Had to pull off to clear my vision. Not a safe situation. Point is, there will be lots of big, slow insects dropping out of trees, overpasses, and just generally in your way. The do-rag ain't gonna help. Prepare. Be safe. From what I've heard, Central Northwest will be experiencing the Cicada emergence in about 10 days. FYI only. No opinions on helmets or rights intended - only be aware..... they are big and slow and can injure.
Forgot geography lesson. Central upper Midwest is focused on Chicagoland area, not far as southern suburbs of St. Louis (Cardinals and Tony the Mullet disregard) but including Milwaukee and west towards Iowa. Cardinal fans who are travelling North to Chicago for culture, please be aware of our periodical cicada infestation.
Thanks for the heads up....Maybe this will help....

You talkin about those mayflies that love to make the roads near waterways in Iowa slippery as snot, or are you talkin about those big assed fugly bug-eyed cicadas, that impact with about the same force as a rubber bullet when u hit em?
