I think we may have found the problem.
It may be a little late to retrain now, but engaging the clutch EVERY time you start the bike is a good habit to have. Edit: technically, disengaging the clutch. Pulling in the clutch lever in layman's terms.
A battery tender will not charge a battery sufficiently to start a bike... Might not even charge it enough to light lights.

It sure as heck will...although it may take a long time to charge a weak battery. Mine is rated at 800mA. So, in one hour it will charge the battery .8 Amp-hour. They are not intended to charge a fully dead battery...but it can do it.
