Today at lunch as I was leaving for some grub, hit the start button and nothing happened. I tried turning the key on and off a few times and putting the bike in and out of neutral. Finally after several trys if fired. This is the second time it has happened to me in the last 2 weeks. Press the start and nothing happens. LIke there is no juice or something. Is this the start of my starter switch going bad or a relay or something? Any of you wrenches got some ideas on how to check seeing how I dont have a manual yet. My bike is a 1986, 883 sport.
mine started that way, first no start, then id loose all power Lites too! it turned out to be the ignition switch pretty easy and inexpensive fix only 3 wires to hook up. let us know!
thanks Mike, I'll start looking for a replacement. When you say your lights went are you talking about the lights that show your high beam is on, neutral light, turn signal, etc. or you talking bout your head and tail lights?
every thing went dead, sometimes id be riding, and then all power would go and the bike would coast to a stop, a real drag at nite. but it all started the way yours is now.
good luck!
bike died on me today on the way into work. Didnt lose lights, at least I didnt notice but it started right back up. The bike just sputtered a couple times and died. Pulled in the clutch, put it in neutral and hit the start and it fired back up and drove on into work. Could it be a relay maybe? Wish that damn manual would hurry up and get here! Planning on a fairly long road trip saturday and I dont wanna break down on the way.
