Default Sidecar for dogs?

Sales rep at Harley dealership says they don't make them anymore. Would like to take my dogs riding too.

They're expensive to add to a motorcycle. I wanted a sidecar to take my young grandson riding, and got an old cheap Ural rig (only factory motorcycle/sidecar rig left in production) to see if it would be worth spending any more on. We both liked it, and the next year I got a newer one, still less than just a sidecar alone for a Harley, and my Harleys are unencumbered with that extra wheel. A Ural isn't close to a Harley, though, they're slow. I never go very far over 50mph, just occasionally a few miles at 55. I've had it up to 68 (GPS), but the motor is near redline there. With a sidecar, it doesn't handle like a motorcycle anymore, and builds shoulder muscles - heavy steering, and you turn, not lean; you want to stay out of traffic till you master the beast. They really kill the gas mileage on a bike, too. My best with the 750cc Ural has been slightly over 30mpg, and I've heard Harleys don't do much better, if at all. Dogs seem to love them, lot of guys take the dog along, but I don't have one.

There's a few sidecar pics in my albums.

We have taken our dogs all over the country in sidecars. They love riding in it, and so do the grandkids. They are the envy of every kid in third grade when we pick them up from school.

A sidecar rig does handle and steer differently than a two wheel bike, and it takes a little practice to get proficient, but once you get it, it's a blast. I just happen to have my rig (the orange/white/black one pictured) for sale in the classified section here, 2000 Screaming Eagle Roadglide with a Hannigan sidecar. Check it out if you're interested.

Well, it's not always about you. You started a thread about sidecars for dogs. LoneWoolf was kind enough to provide a link to a film about dogs in sidecars. Maybe you don't appreciate it but I, for one, and others may enjoy and appreciate it.

Now, to address your issue, Harley may not make sidecars but their are aftermarket sidecars for an HD.

Awesome this is what I was looking for. Think I might do that, rather than run the risk of uglying up my new Road King. Thank you

I did not mean it like that and thanks for the link. I guess I was just looking for some that had a little experience with them. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.

If you want a Harley sidecar, you will need to get a used one, 2008 or older. Harley did not make them for the new (2009 up) chassis. They are not the best sidecar but, they are my favorite.
It's best to have it as your second bike, at least that's my opinion, I love the sidecar experience but, not enough to give up the two wheeled one. When I first got mine it was the only bike and I'd remove it and replace it for different trips. It's a pain and the sidecar rig causes weird tire wear that can affect the way the bike handles with it off.Of course you may find that the sidecar rig is the only way to go and the one bike will be enough.
If you want to mount it on a newer bike or want a more modern rig then and mentioned, Hannigan is the way to go.

After encountering other sidecar-dogs, I wanted to put a hack on my '02 FXD so I put an add on a free buy/sell site and picked up an older Velorex sidecar. I did my research, talked to a number of sidecar experts, and made my own bolt-on mounts. (The clamp-on mounts are NOT a good idea.) The Velorex body wasn't suitable for a dog (because of a crossbar) so I made my own from plywood.

My dog LOVED riding in the sidecar. Unfortunately I lost her June 11 to heart disease.
