I'm a fan of black paint - just not the vivid black Harley puts on - it's pretty "soft" and easily shows swirl marks, etc
If you are going to paint it - throw a little metallic in a good quality black paint...

Normally when I tour it doesn't take long to hit rain or get plastered by bugs. The only thing I clean when touring is the windshield, the rest can wait till I get home. Even plastered with bugs the glide looks pretty good. I don't worry too much about swirls, you need to be fairly close to see them as well too. I still like to look after the bike and every winter I clean up the year scratches with Maguires polishes and wax.

I have heard it said the "Black is the only color a H-D should be" cant say I agree, but my Vivid Black Sportster still looks good.

Every Harley I've owned since 1967 was vivid black except for my first that was blue and white. Needless to say, I love vivid black Harleys. The upkeep isn't nearly as bad as it is with a car due to the reduced amount of paint. Fenders, tank, and you are basically done. A whole black bike is probably less paint than a hood on a car.

I've owned a vivid black, and 2 black denim bikes. I prefer the black denim, easy to maintain and no worries with swirls or anything else really.

Black is good, and the only other color I'd consider owning is really, really, really dark gray. Provided it's dark enough.

My bike is 7 years old and the paint looks pretty good still.
