Just got done upgrading the charging system. New compensator , stator , voltage regulator and primary chain tensioner. Put everything back together and it want start. Starter turns over and engages flywheel but the engine spins like there is no compression. I'm out of ideas. Any ideas on how to fix or trouble shoot the problem
If the starter free spins the engine like you took the spark plugs out (no compression), it almost certainly means your cam and crank sprockets weren't aligned correctly when the chain was reinstalled. The 'no compression' is resulting from the valves not opening and closing at the right times.
I tried everything. Flipped run switch on and off. Tried cranking in gear with the clutch in. Tried in neutral with clutch in. It would run before I took it apart. I replaced the stator and compensator so that shouldn't have anything to do with it not starting. Brand new voltage regulator. I know it has to be something simple but I've got to be overlooking something
I found the problem. Thanks for the input. Good ole rookie mistake. I forgot to install the sliding cam piece. I've got a manual on the way. You always learn from your mistakes and it was still cheaper than taking it to the shop
