I'm installing a new exhaust on my ultra. I've never done this before, and I'm having a helluva time getting the pipes seated. Should they go in easily? I thought I have the front pipe seated, but the flange bracket doesn't even go on far enough to expose the threads on the header bolt. Is there a trick to doing this correctly?
Make sure nothing is interfering with pipes, like trans mount brkt or floorboard. They can be tricky, but they just relax when they get in place . I would get both sides in and lined up before i tighten anything.
With header close to seating in exhaust ports, grab lower portion of pipe"collector" and rotate header pipe upwards towards your chest while facing right side of engine.Header pipe should pop into ports where you can then attach flanges.
When I did my Power Duals I fought with them to the point I SWORE they were the wrong pipes.
Then all of a sudden they just slipped right in.
Couple things...
I found it helps if you get the pipe in the front jug first, then swing the pipes around towards the engine & into the rear port.
Also, use zip ties to hold the flanges up to the ends of the pipes, if they slip down they won't want to clear the cylinders when you try to slide them up into place.
Keep at it

I want to thank everyone who offered advice on this thread. I finally got my pipes installed. After lots of tries, cussing, and walking away till I wasn't pissed, they finally just snapped into place! Now that the pain in the *** part is over, I'm replacing the stock air cleaner with a big sucker, and adding a power commander. This should go a lot better.

This. 100% this. Just keep at it and they'll eventually just seem to "pop" right in. The zip tie trick is clutch too.
